BP gambles with the Gulf

I do not what I am hearing on the news about the Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It turns out that the volume of crude oil that is being released at the Gulf floor has been grossly understated. It also makes me more cynical about the fact that BP has been using toxic Chemical Dispersants to help the oil not all come to the surface so there are no accurate pictures to put on the news.

BP gambled with our Gulf of Mexico from the very beginning. They did not spend the money to have a plan in place to deal with a worst case scenario. They also gambled with the idea that if they dipersed the oil, they would be able to cap the leak. Didn't happen.

I would say that they have gambled and lost twice but that isn't really the case for the people making the Corporate decisions. They Gambled but they will not be the losers. They will most likely be set for life.

To Hawk or Not To Hawk?

I think it is normal at some point when a person is growing up to wonder about the size of the Universe. I remember spending a fair amount of time laying in the grass looking at the sky and clouds or if it was night time, I would usually lay on the sidewalk and look at stars. It was a simple question but how could the Universe just go on forever. And if it did stop, what was on the other side of that? Then it leads to wondering why anything ever existed at all let alone human beings and human comprehension. It would make me feel wierd to think about it too long but when I was growing up, we didn't have computers or computer games and if it snowed in Houston, I would have to walk to school in the snow, etc.

OK, Now for the next scientific enlightenment. I read about Steven Hawking talking about how we better be careful to send out messages into the universe to see if anybody answers. With billions of stars out there, I can agree that there is a some statistical probability that there could theoretically be life out there somewhere but I think when you consider how long it would take them to get here, we don't have too much to worry about. I can't go into it with mathematical equations but I don't think warp speed is physically plauseable. Besides if it was possible to travel that fast, you would have to keep slowing down just avoid running into a star since it doesn't seem like you would be able to do much steering at the speed of light or anywhere close to it. As far as Aliens coming here to plunder our planet, that doesn't make much sense since they would have to pass so many other galexies and solar systems that they could probably just find the raw materials they were looking for before they got here. The other thing, is that they would have to have a pretty long life span to survive the journey. About the only way it would make sense is if they figured out how to download thier brains into computer type storage and OR they actually created artificial life forms with computer brains and robotic functions. If it got to that point, it doesn't seem like they would need anything that we have that they could not find somewhere else.


Still, I take my hat off to Steven Hawking for being able to grab the headlines but if we are going to worry about something traveling through space that will do us harm, we should just focus on being able to blow up an asteroid so we don't end up like the dinasaurs. It seems inevitable that we are going to blow up the world before that happens.

I think it is best to just try to avoid stress, have a good diet and enjoy life while it lasts.

Just be happy that you were not born as a fish. Especially the fish that I am getting ready to fry. I have mixed up some cracker crumbs, flour, and corn meal, and am going to put some spices directly on the fish. I got some frozen talapia that is a "product of india" and we are going to have some red potatoes and a salad.

In other news, the state of Arizona is hiring 16.000 ex KGB agents to ask people what business they have being free in America and if they don't answer they will waterboard them in the name of democracy.

Scientific Breaktrhrough

Greetings from the here-and-now.

I was driving through the U-Turn at Gessner and Katy Freeway and maybe it was the G-force of approximatley 1.009 Gs that gave me the proper frame of mind to come to the indisputable conclusion that time travel will never be possible. No matter how advanced human technology advances it will never happen. If it was going to happen we would already know due to the fact that time travelers would have already come on back from the future and as much as people talk there is no way that somebody wouldn't have already said something. The other simple fact is the lottery would always be rigged and I have seen enough TV commercials showing lottery winners to know for a fact that those folks don't usually look like time travelers. If you need any more proof than that, then it isn't going to matter since you will never "get it" even if you did have a time machine.
